The Culture Matters Podcast

Season 76, Episode 906: The Beyond Order Series: Rule 1

Jay Doran Season 76 Episode 906

"Something we cannot see protects us from something we do not understand. The thing we cannot see is culture, in its intrapsychic or internal manifestation. The thing we do not understand is the chaos that gave rise to culture. If the structure of culture is disrupted, unwittingly, chaos returns. We will do anything - anything - to defend ourselves against that return." - Dr. Jordan B. Peterson, Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief

Today, our very own Jay Doran is getting started with our brand new series where he is going through Dr. Jordan B. Peterson's book, Beyond Order: 12 More Rules for Life, one-by-one and breaking down his own interpretation of the text.  Rule one, which states, "Do not carelessly denigrate social institutions or creative achievement", is a call not to talk disparagingly about things that you do not understand.  Try to understand everything you can so that when you do form an opinion, you are able to do so in an educated manner with as many facts as possible in front of you.  We are very excited to present this series to our listeners and we, in turn, hope you enjoy this episode of The Culture Matters Podcast.
