The Culture Matters Podcast

Season 77, Episode 916: The Beyond Order Series: Rule 11

Jay Doran Season 77 Episode 916

"Something we cannot see protects us from something we do not understand. The thing we cannot see is culture, in its intrapsychic or internal manifestation. The thing we do not understand is the chaos that gave rise to culture. If the structure of culture is disrupted, unwittingly, chaos returns. We will do anything - anything - to defend ourselves against that return." - Dr. Jordan B. Peterson, Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief

We are continuing our series today with our very own Jay Doran going through Dr. Jordan B. Peterson's book, Beyond Order: 12 More Rules for Life, and giving his own interpretation of the text.  This edition's deep dive is centered around rule number 11, stating: "Do not allow yourself to become resentful, deceitful, and arrogant."  On the surface, this rule seems pretty self-explanatory and simply good advice.  But if you take the time to drill down on it, you may just find that this rule is much easier said than done.  Jay is going to dive into it on this episode of The Culture Matters Podcast.
